We met Drako, Zar, and Drago each ranging from 2 – 6 years old. We learned so many interesting facts about the K9s, like their breed and even the language their calls are made in Dutch, Czech, and German. We are so grateful to these officers for spending the afternoon with us!

Dickerson Club, in partnership with the City of Daytona Beach, launched a captivating plant-based cooking program led by Chef Camille from Kale Cafe. The initiative has successfully engaged 25 local children, educating them on healthy eating and teaching them to prepare nutritious snacks with everyday household items. As the program concludes, each participant will receive a mini cookbook featuring the plant-based recipes they’ve mastered. She made a poster comparing ways to fill each other’s buckets with kindness vs ways to dip in each other’s buckets. She even made tokens to give when she catches bucket fillers.

This is a beautiful collaboration between the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Rymfire Elementary School, and the Rymfire Boys & Girls Club.

- [Staying Alive](https://bgcvfc.org/staying-alive/): Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive…the theme song used to help staff keep the beat in CPR training recently. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Volusia/Flagler Counties provide First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, CPR (Adult, Child, Infant), and AED training for all of our staff. CPR training occurs in August during our all-staff training week; however, we provide training throughout the year when necessary for new staff members. A special thanks to Medics in Motion who does an amazing job facilitating the training.

- [She Stepped Up](https://bgcvfc.org/she-stepped-up/): One of our older members is determined to be a Junior Staff member with us. Stepped up to handle an issue between two younger members. She didn’t ask for Staff help but Staff observed the situation. She was able to successfully de-escalate the situation and have the members understand what they did was wrong, the members took their “break,” and she handled it with professionalism and composure. —Justin

Both members had no coping skills, were very impulsive, very explosive, and very disrespectful to everyone they encountered. In the past two years, both members have completely done a 180 degrees in behavior. We continue to mentor both members throughout the month. They both are very respectful. They not only hold themselves accountable but also other club members accountable. They still struggle with their behaviors in school. - [Taking the Initiative](https://bgcvfc.org/taking-the-initiative/): When I first began working at the new Club, in my new role. I began giving light duty assignments to our Jr. Staff. She at first didn’t know how to react, but when I asked if she was a paid employee, she realized what I was asking her to do was actually in her job description and part of her job. I explained you get out of your role in this mission that you put into it. By the end of the summer, she was taking the initiative to gather supplies and help where she could. —Shawn
- [Classroom Success](https://bgcvfc.org/754-2/): The Boys & Girls Clubs of Volusia/Flagler Counties with support from Easterseals conducted the fourth and final educational training for all agencies, focusing on “Strategies for Classroom Success.” Dr. JoEllan Rogers facilitated the training on Friday, September 22, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Rossmeyer Family/Holly Hill Boys & Girls Club. Easterseals provides 4 trainings from October 2022 to September 2023 which is part of our Youth Development Services (K-12) 2022-23 Children and Families Advisory Board (CFAB) grant. In attendance were professionals from the Boys & Girls Clubs, Easterseals, YMCA, PACE & House Next Door.

- [By Your Side](https://bgcvfc.org/by-your-side/): Tavahny participated in a talent show competition and not only had a great experience but also received some great guidance from one of the judges. And like always, Miss Althea was by her side supporting and cheering her on. Tavahny began attending the Lacey/Spring Hill Club in DeLand when she was 6 years old and would just casually mention to others she could sing. And that’s what she did, she sang every school day while walking with other Club members from Stark Elementary to the Club. Once Miss Althea knew she could sing she had her singing at every opportunity.

With the support of Jeep Beach, Hard Rock Hotels, and Sol Fishing, our youngsters had a blast as they enjoyed swimming, dancing, getting caricatures drawn, and most importantly, having a great time with their friends from all over the region. - [Clear and Inclusive](https://bgcvfc.org/clear-and-inclusive/): We have several members that speak different languages at home, and two students ages (6-9) that don’t speak English at all. Victoria is from Venezuela and Liz Amanda is from Cuba. At first it was a little difficult translating and including them, but now I make it my mission to make sure everything is clear and inclusive for them. Now I see them both thriving and Victoria can read a entire article to me in English and comprehend it as well. —Jill
