Another Highlight This Summer: Florida Alliance Was Awarded $11.1 Million

Jun 12, 2024 | Community Support, Leadership

On June 12th, the Florida Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs was awarded $11.1 million from the state’s 2024-2025 fiscal year budget, marking the second-largest appropriation ever received by the Alliance. This crucial funding will enhance out-of-school programs for over 270,000 youth across Florida. The funds support three key initiatives:

Positive Youth Development Programming: In partnership with the Department of Juvenile Justice, this program focuses on teaching life skills and building resilience to combat issues such as gun violence and substance misuse.

Mentoring and Student Assistance Initiatives: Collaborating with the Department of Education, this initiative provides academic support and mentoring to address summer learning loss and complement school-based education.

Workforce Readiness Programming: Also in partnership with the Department of Education, this program offers job skills training and career exploration, helping youth develop readiness for future careers.

Each year, we take a group of teens to the State Capitol in Tallahassee, where they actively advocate for these essential funds. This educational trip empowers them by teaching self-advocacy and prepares them for the Youth of the Year oratory competition. By presenting their case and engaging with legislators, our teens gain valuable public speaking skills and a deeper understanding of the legislative process, enhancing their leadership abilities and future prospects.

A special thanks to Senator Tom Wright, Randy Dye, and the Board members and staff for attending the presentation of a $2.5 million check last week, allocated for all Florida Clubs to share. Your support and presence were crucial as we celebrated this significant contribution. Joe Davis, Executive Director of the Alliance, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the state’s commitment, emphasizing how this funding will greatly expand and enhance Club programs throughout Florida.
